Directions and Suggestions for Completing the
Living-Learning Community Application.
This application is for all our living-learning communities. Please complete the application if you are applying for FIG, FYE, and/or MOSAIC
1. Introduction
Throughout the history of our living-learning programs, experience has shown us that students whose parents sign them up for the programs by completing the application for them or whose parents demand participation in the programs are less successful due to the lack of understanding and buy-in to the program. We strongly encourage each student and their guardian to examine and discuss the various programs together as an excellent option for your first year at Sonoma State University.FOR FIG APPLICANTS ONLY
2. The CSU system has determined that all students must receive one of the following scores to be placed into college level English (English 101):
- A score of at least 550 on the critical reading portion of the SAT
- A score of at least 24 on the ACT
- A score of at least 148 on the English Placement Test (EPT)
- An EAP Exemption for English
- Or a score of 3 or higher on the Advanced Placement English Literature or Language Exam
- One of the three linked courses for all nine FIG cohorts is English 101. Therefore, it is required that each applicant meets the above CSU guidelines.
3. Important Information for students interested in the Engineering, Math & Science FIG
The CSU system has determined that all students must receive one of the following scores to be placed into college level Math (Math 100 or above):- A score of at least 550 on the math portion of the SAT
- A score of at least 23 on the ACT
- A score of at least 50 on the Entry Level Math Exam (ELM)
- An EAP Exemption for Math
- Or a score of 3 or higher on any Advanced Placement Math Exam
- One of the three linked courses for the Engineering, Math & Science FIG is pre-calculus/calculus. Therefore, it is required that each applicant meets the above CSU guidelines.
4. Important Information for students interested in the Pre-Health Professions FIG
The CSU system has determined that all students must receive one of the following scores to be placed into college level Math (Math 100 or above):- A score of 550 on the math portion of the SAT
- A score of 23 on the ACT
- Or a score of 50 on the Entry Level Math Exam (ELM)
- One of the three linked courses for the Pre-Health Professions FIG is chemistry. Although there is no math requirement to take chemistry, students who do not meet the above requirements typically struggle with chemistry their first semester. Therefore, it is required that each applicant meets the above CSU guidelines.
5. Acceptance into the FIG program is on a rolling basis
If you are still waiting on scores, or to take the placement tests, please mail in the application, and indicate that information on the form. The FIG program fills quickly and because you cannot be accepted into the program until test scores are received, it is in your best interest to take your placement tests as soon as possible. Although we would love to turn around applications within 10 business days, sometimes time constraints arise. If you do not hear from someone in the program(s) within three weeks, please feel free to follow-up on your application using the contact information found on each program's website.FIG Students: If you are still waiting on scores, or to take the placement tests, please mail in the application, and indicate that information on the form.
