PARENT & FAMILY WEEKEND
Friday, October 9 - Sunday, October 11, 2009

Take a mid-semester break and join your SSU students for a weekend of fun, athletic events, art exhibits, Sonoma County cuisine, information, and much more. Mingle with other parents and families, and SSU faculty and staff in beautiful Sonoma County.

The breakfast is now FULL. The cost has now been reduced to $20.00 per person. There is no waitlist for the breakfast.

ALL PARENT & FAMILY WEEKEND FORMS AND PAYMENT MUST BE IN THE ORIENTATION & FAMILY PROGRAMS OFFICE BY FRIDAY, 10/2/09 AT 5:00PM IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAM.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS (subject to change)

This year's schedule includes:

  • On Friday, October 9th:
    • (Optional) Check-in at Salazar 1010 from noon-6pm and receive lots of goodies including your pass for free entrance to attend the men's and women's soccer games.
    • Men’s soccer team competes at 1:30pm at the soccer field.
    • Women’s soccer team plays at 4:00pm also at the soccer field.
    • Sonoma Film Institute presents “My Father, My Lord” in Ives 101 at 7:00pm.
    • Women’s volleyball in the gymnasium at 7:00pm.
    • “Dancing at Lughnasa” presented by the SSU Center for Performing Arts at 7:30pm in Evert B. Person Theater.*
    • Friday Nite Live: Karaoke with free pizza at Ameci’s at 8:30pm.

    On Saturday, October 10th:

    • Check-in at 8:00am at the Cooperage and receive lots of goodies for the weekend.
    • Join the President, Deans, faculty, and staff for a breakfast reception beginning at 9:00am. FULL
    • Participate in department lectures and exhibits at 11:00am.
    • Take a library tour from 11:00am through 1:00pm.  Tours start every 15 minutes.
    • Check out the University Library Art Gallery, that is putting on the "Live-Dance-Paint" art show. The gallery is open from 12:00pm to 5:00pm.
    • Green Music Center Tour at 1:30pm and 2:30pm at the Green Music Center.
    • KID ZONE: Fun activities for the entire family from 2:00-4:00pm in the Recreation Center.
    • Enjoy the Music Department’s Collage Concert at 4:00pm.
    • Check out the Student Clubs/Organizations Showcase at 5:30 pm in the main campus quad.
    • See a magician work his magic at 8:00pm in Ives 101.

    On Sunday, October 11th:

    • Join the SSU Cross Country team on a “Fun Run” around campus in the morning.  Participation proceeds go to support the Cross Country team and a local food bank.*
    • Partake in the festivities as we kick off “A Blue Tradition”, SSU’s Homecoming Week 2009 at the Men’s and Women’s soccer games at 11:30am and 2:00pm.

    Check out the University Art Gallery who is currently putting on the following show:

    University Art Gallery, Sonoma State University

    The exhibition Used includes five California artists - four from the Bay Area and one from Los Angeles (Jedediah Caesar, Christine Lee, Kristina Lewis, Scott MacLeod, and Scott Oliver) - whose work, while unique from one another, shares an affinity for incorporating nontraditional materials that have been, could be, but certainly were intended to be used for purposes other than making a work of art.

     

    *These events have an additional cost to attend. . There may be more events added to these. Check this website frequently.

Parent & Family Weekend participants will receive a free or discounted rate to all of the events, except the Fun Run fundraiser! And all weekend, enjoy free access to our Recreation Center and a discount at the SSU Bookstore.

All forms and fees must be received by 10/2/2009 (allow 2 additional days for delivery due to campus mail processing):

Primary guest = $20
Additional adult = $20 each
Guest ages 4-12 years = $20 each
Guest ages 0-3 years = FREE
