The Who, What, When, Where, Why and How
of the Undeclared and EOP Advising Center.

WHO

Undeclared Majors

If you are an undeclared major, you're in the right place. Over one-third of our entering students have not declared a major and receive their academic advising from the ACE advisors in the Advising Center. For more information, call for an appointment (664-2427) or come by Salazar Hall 1060 and visit us!

Students who have declared a major and need advising must contact their major department for academic advising.

If you are a prospective student, go to the Advising Instructions Page to learn how to get pre-admission advising.

EOP Students

All EOP students receive academic, career, and personal advising through the Advising Center. Advisors assist students with concerns regarding housing, financial aid, and balancing college with personal life demands while meeting graduation requirements.

Faculty and Staff

The Advising Center is also responsible for providing information and training for faculty advisors, and help for students with particularly difficult advising problems who are referred by their faculty advisors.

WHAT

Are you familiar with the terms SAEM and ACE? EOP and EMT? What do they mean?

  • SAEM is an acronym that stands for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, a team of 21 departments (Admissions & Records, Academic Services, Career Services, Disabled Students Services, Learning Skills Services, Scholarships, International Students Programs & Residential Life, Student Health, Scheduling, Associated Students, Athletics, Children's School & Care Center, Counseling & Psychological Services, Campus Life, Pre-College, Student Union) serving you.

  • Your Educational Mentoring Team is also known as your EMT, and the Educational Opportunity Program you know as EOP.

  • ACE stands for Academic, Career and EOP advising services, a team within a team. Your Academic, Career and EOP advisors are called ACE advisors.

  • SOAR stands for Sonoma Orientation Advising and Registration and is designed for newly admitted first time freshmen.

WHY

Academic, Career, Life Goal Planning

Our advisors can help you through many of the academic ups and downs, questions and concerns you might have as you formulate your life and career goals. Are you an undeclared major who needs advising regarding general education and major exploration? We encourage you to begin career planning now in order to identify a major by your Junior year. By taking an integrated advising and career development approach, you receive assistance in identifying appropriate general education coursework which will support your educational and life goals.
