Step Five: Plan of Attack

(Print this!)

How to make your dreams come true!

Your decision is made. Before you begin to make your dreams come true, these are a few things you have to consider:

Education:

How much education is required for your career?

  • Trade school: 1 - 2 years
  • Associate’s degree: 2 years
  • Bachelor’s degree: 4 years
  • Master’s degree: 6 years
  • Doctorate or Professional degree: 8 years or more

College Major:

What major would make sense for your chosen career? If you want to be an Accountant, the answer is simple, an Accounting major. Other career choices are not so easy. For example, if you’re interested in becoming an Advertising Executive, your major could be Communication Studies, Business - with an emphasis in Marketing, or just about any other major! Do some research, ask people currently doing the job you want (Informational Interviewing). What was their field of study?

Other Considerations:

Think of other, smaller decisions that might be required with this career choice...

Do you like school?

Would this degree add more semesters to academic career?

Is this an affordable option?
