RESIDENTIAL LIFE STAFF

An RLC is a professional staff member responsible for the Residential Life program within one of the four villages. They supervise the CSAs for their village, handle disciplinary cases, provide counseling for residents, resolve conflicts, advise the village councils, and ensure the quality of life within their village.

Each of the RLCs has completed a Master's Degree in College Student Personnel or a related field. In addition to the duties that they perform for their village, each co-instruct Freshman Seminar, serve as an academic advisor, and have departmental assignments. Each evening during the academic year, an RLC is on duty within the Residential Community.

Andrea Melrose, the Verdot RLC, is a St. Louis native who has always loved to read. She completed her B.A. in Secondary Education and English (more reading) at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. Andrea was a Resident Assistant for two years and was encouraged to continue in the field. She completed an M.S. in Higher Education Administration at the University of Kansas (Go, Jayhawks!) in Lawrence, KS. After completing her degree, she moved to Philadelphia where she enjoyed working at La Salle University. In addition to reading, Jayhawk basketball and traveling the country, Andrea enjoys a wide variety of movies and music, art museums and the occasional shoe shopping experience. Andrea is really excited about exploring a new area of the country, reading in the sunshine and being a part of such a great team at SSU!

Hello! My name is Julie Bulow von Dennewitz. I hail from the great Pacific Northwest, born and raised! As I move to California, I will have lived in every state on the West Coast. I earned my Bachelors of Business Administration from Pacific Lutheran University and went on to obtain a Masters in Education from Oregon State University (Go Beavs!). One of the things I enjoy doing most is spending time with my husband (and my family, too!). July 23rd, 2005 I was married to Marcus Bulow von Dennewitz. He and I enjoy getting outdoors as much as possible; this includes biking, hiking, walking, etc... As for my individual interests, I love a good aerobics or kickboxing class, as well as just going for a run. I also love to surf and ski. I enjoy playing the piano as well, music is a definite hobby. I am excited to be at Sonoma State University, what an opportunity. Stop by and say hello to me if you get a chance!

Greetings from the Beaujolais Poolhouse! Yep, my office is actually next to the pool. Now that you know where I am, stop by. Oh, my name? I’m Michael Stark. A little about me: I moved around a lot as a youngster and ended up completing my B.A.’s in History and Int’l Studies-Asia, along with a M.Ed. in Counseling and Personnel Services, at the University of Southern Mississippi. Since that time I have hopped northward to Hiram College in OH and Eastern Michigan University. I never thought I would end up in California (gas prices…sheesh), but my wife and I love it out here; and since my office is by the pool and I have a cordless phone, I can put up with gas prices.

Anyway…I am very excited to be working at a great university like SSU. I got into this line of work because I loved my college experience, even the studying, and I wanted to help students succeed and have a personally rewarding time. So, if you have a question or need someone to listen, come by and see me.

Hi. I'm Heather, the RLC for Sauvignon Village East. I'm new to SSU as of January '06. Prior to coming to SSU I obtained my BA in Human Studies at Bradford College in Haverhill, MA and worked in Residence Life at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and at University of California, Riverside.

Most recently I completed my MA in Counseling Psychology at Humboldt State University where I lived for the past 3 years. So, although I grew up in Maine and hail from New England, I definitely feel like Northern Cali is my home. I moved here with my son Simon (who recently turned 9 years old!) In my spare time you'll find me playing Harry Potter Wizard's Chess with Simon, or riding bikes to the duck pond. I also love to dance (especially hip-hop) and enjoy great food and good books.

Hello my name is Stacey Murray, and I am the RLC of Cabernet Village. I am originally from Texas but moved to Connecticut when I was little. I obtained my B.A. in Secondary Education/Social Studies from New England College and I received my M.S. in Higher Education Administration from the University at Albany. Previously, I worked as a Residence Hall Director at the State University of New York at Cobleskill. I love watching and playing sports, shopping, movies, and traveling. Being from the East Coast, I am excited and can’t wait to explore all of what Sonoma County, California, and the West Coast has to offer. I am very excited to be here at Sonoma State University and I enjoy working with students. Please do not hesitate to stop by my office to say hello.

Hello. I recently began working for Residential Life at Sonoma State University, and I am very honored and happy to work for a wonderful department and a first class university. I graduated from Indiana University with a degree in History and a Psychology minor in 1999 and then with a Masters degree in Education in 2001. From 2001-2005, I worked at the University of Georgia as a Residence Hall Director and then as an Area Coordinator. I moved out here with my partner in crime, Sarah, and we both enjoy living in Sonoma County. I am an avid runner (think marathons), a huge All My Children fan, and probably the most passionate Indiana University sports fan in all of California. I am someone who enjoys working with college students and I hope that I can help make your higher education experience a success. Please stop by my office in Barbera over in Zinfandel and introduce yourself to me.
