Sauvignon CommUNITY

The Sauvignon CommUNITY Cooperative (Co-op) Program was designed to foster within each student a sense of pride, investment, and a desire to contribute positively within their living environment. As a stipulation of living in the Sauvignon CommUNITY, all first year residents, who are not a member of the FYE program, are required to participate in this uniquely designed residential program. Students will be required to participate as a member of one of six Co-op Teams within their building. Sauvignon CommUNITY residents will also be given the unique opportunity to interact and work with Community Service Advisors and Co-op Team Leaders. The residents of Sauvignon CommUNITY, with the assistance of a Co-op Team Leader, will contribute to the active planning and implementation of programs and events that are based on their Co-op Team area.

As a Sauvignon CommUNITY member you will actively participate in one of the following teams:

Academic Success and Future Exploration: Members will provide support and resources to students on academic advising, tutoring, study skills, etc. They will also explore and help their community members explore what their future may hold for them in terms of academic at SSU and possible career exploration.

Civility, Citizenship, and Community: Members will learn what it means to live in a community and how to contribute positively to that community. They will also help to build community within their respective building and educate its community members on how to deal with issues that might arise as a result of living in a community. Members will voice concerns of residents within their building and will be active in helping to promote a positive living-learning environment.

Human Awareness and Diversity: Members will help to honor the inherent worth and dignity in all Sauvignon residents, while educating each other on the richness of our diverse community.

Life Skills: Members will learn about life's basic skills. Time-management, balancing finances, and how to cook are just to name a few. Members will then teach these basic life skills to their fellow community members.

Mind, Body, Spirit: Members will learn about the importance of overall health and well-being and will help to educate their fellow community members on how to live a holistic lifestyle while living within a residential community.

Sustainability and Community Outreach: Members will increase awareness and participation in the Sauvignon CommUNITY recycling efforts and smart energy consumption. Members will help to create community service opportunities for Sauvignon residents, and/or will help to create cordial connections and community partnerships between Sauvignon Village and neighboring residential communities.
