EMT/ELM Testing Information

All students entering the CSU must demonstrate proficiency in Mathematics and English. This can be done by one of the following:
  1. Completing a course in Math and/or English at the General Education level at a university or college.
  2. Pass the English Placement Test (EPT) and/or the Elementary Level Mathematics test (ELM). (click here for more information on EPT and ELM)
  3. Be exempt from the placement tests. (click here for exemptions)

The EPT and ELM are given at all of the campuses of the CSU System. You should plan on taking them at the campus nearest to you, no later than May 3, 2008. Failing to take the test(s) may result in you being blocked from registering for Fall classes.

If you have questions as to whether you need to take the EPT, ELM, or both tests, contact the Admissions Department at the campus you have applied to.

If you wish to take the test(s) at Sonoma State University, click here to register.
