ELM/EPT Online Registration Form

You can take the EPT/ELM at any of the CSU campuses.

This EPT/ELM registration is for Sonoma State University testing site ONLY.

If you wish to test at another CSU campus, please follow the procedures stated in the registration bulletin for EPT/ELM.


Purpose of the EPT

  • The EPT is designed to assess the level of reading and writing skills of entering lower-division students so that they can be placed in appropriate courses.
  • Those lower-division students who do not demonstrate college-level skills will be directed to courses or programs to correct identified deficiencies.
  • The test is not a condition for admission to the CSU.
  • It should be taken only once and may not be repeated.
  • Cost to the student for taking the EPT is $18. This fee is nonrefundable and subject to change.

Purpose of the ELM

  • The ELM examination is designed to assess the skills levels of entering CSU students in the areas of elementary and intermediate algebra and plane geometry. Such skills generally are acquired in three years of rigorous college preparatory mathematics courses in high school.
  • Those lower-division students who do not demonstrate college-level skills will be directed to courses or programs designed to help them attain these skills.
  • Taking the ELM examination is not a condition of admission to the CSU.
  • It is to be taken as soon as possible after admission.
  • Cost to the student for taking the ELM is $18. This fee is nonrefundable and subject to change.
Note:The ELM examination may be taken only once on each test date or during each "demand" testing period.

Special Arrangements

Students with disabilities, who must take tests administered by the Testing Center, should contact the Testing Center, Salazar 1070 (664-2947), or the Disabled Student Services, (telephone: 664-2677) for special arrangements. Candidates with disabilities must request accommodations by registration deadline.
