Non-Student, Community-Member Tutor Request Page

The SSU Tutorial Program might be able to put you in contact with an SSU student tutor.  If you are a community member looking for a tutor (for example, a parent looking for a tutor for a high school student), you can give us your contact information by sending us an email according to the instructions on this page.  We will accept your contact information, print it out, and post it on our Community Tutoring Bulletin Board.  If an SSU student tutor would like to supply tutoring to you, that student tutor will contact you by phone.  Please do not attempt to contact the SSU Tutorial Program by phone yourself.  Tutorial Program services are primarily for officially enrolled SSU students, and staff do not have the time to talk to you directly or process your requests directly.

If a tutor does not contact you, this means the SSU Tutorial Program cannot satisfy your tutoring needs.  You might want to try one of the many professional tutoring services in the area instead.  For a listing of the tutoring services in the area, go back to the Tutorial Home page, locate the "Tutorial Services" menu on the left side of the home page, and click on "Off-Campus Tutoring Providers" for a list of professional providers.

Important! If a tutor does contact you, this means you are entering into a private agreement with the student.  SSU bears no responsibility for this agreement nor for services rendered.  The location of the tutoring, the style and content of the tutoring, and the rate of pay are all part of the private agreement between the community member and the student tutor.  SSU Tutorial Program staff recommend to tutors that they should accept no rate of pay below $25.00 per hour although this is negotiable. Some tutors may accept less.

Important! SSU student tutors are available only six months out of the year. They are available September, October, and November and February, March, and April. If you attempt to make contact with a tutor during any other month, your request will not be processed.

--If you would like to contact an SSU student tutor, send your contact information in an email to Learning@sonoma.edu. (Important! If you do not have the capability to send emails, you cannot make contact with an SSU student tutor.) The email should contain only answers to the below six questions (and please include the questions themselves.) If you do not answer all six questions, your email will not be processed.

1. Name of the person providing contact information:

2. Name of the person to be tutored (the “tutee”):

3. Subject(s) to be tutored:

4. Reason “tutee” is requesting tutoring:

5. Highest amount per hour you are willing to pay:

6. Phone number where you can be contacted:

--Send your email containing answers to the above six questions to Learning@sonoma.edu
