Lipperd Named CCAA Softball Pitcher of the Week
After helping Sonoma State to a 4-0 start in California Collegiate Athletic Association play this past weekend, sophomore and
pre-business student, Samantha Lipperd has been named the Worth/CCAA Softball Pitcher of the Week, it was announced Monday afternoon. It is the second time in her career that Lipperd has earned the honor.
Lipperd tossed 15 shutout innings against Cal State East Bay and struck out 23 batters en route to a 2-0 record this weekend. In Friday's opener, the sophomore from Boulder Creek threw all ten innings, retiring the first 21 batters she faced. Lipperd went on to strikeout 15 Pioneers, tying a school-record for most strikeouts in a game, while allowing just one hit that came with no outs in the eighth inning. It was the only baserunner she allowed all day.
On Saturday, Lipperd pitched five shutout innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out eight batters. On the season, she has struckout 43 of the 91 batters she has faced, allowing just five runs in 26 innings in the pitching circle.
Sonoma State will continue conference play against Bay Area-rival San Francisco State on Friday and Saturday at the Seawolf Softball Field in Rohnert Park. Both doubleheaders are scheduled to begin at Noon.
