Position Characteristics
The successful candidate will be expected to teach (usually 50% teaching dependent upon department needs) in the areas of winery business and marketing. The successful candidate will also be expected to manage business and marketing operations at the Fresno State Winery, the University's bonded winery. The successful candidate will be expected to supervise student interns and coordinate classroom projects. Close interaction and cooperation with the grape industries is also expected. Initially, the successful candidate will be given a twelve-month assignment. Willingness and ability to work in collaborative environment and to complete tasks on time are essential characteristics of the person filling this position. Specific assignments will depend on department needs. The successful candidate may be called upon to teach in a distance education mode and will be encouraged to develop web-enhanced and/or web- based instruction. Outcomes assessment and service learning are important components of the university curriculum. The successful candidate will be expected to work cooperatively with faculty and staff in the department, college and university, as well as with grape and wine industry representatives
Academic Preparation
An earned Master's degree in Business Administration or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution is required. At the time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a U.S. citizen, must have authorization from the bureau of Citizenship and Immigration services to work in the United States.
Teaching or Other Experience
Experience in winery business and marketing operations required. Proven sales and leadership skills, a demonstrated ability to manage business and marketing operations as well as a demonstrated ability to fiscally manage the assets of a comparable volume business, is essential. In addition, proven business plan development from idea generation to execution is preferred. Understanding of viticulture, winemaking, wine tasting, and successful event planning and execution are all considered to be helpful. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence at the university level. All candidates must demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills. The successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students from a diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
