rogerson_heck_silver_low.jpgGary Heck, president and owner of Korbel Champagne Cellars, became an honorary inductee of Beta Gamma Sigma business honor society, to recognize his founding role in the creation of the Wine Business Institute at Sonoma State University. He was recognized at a ceremony on campus last Sunday, along with the students being inducted into the honor society.

"I am honored to be chosen to be an honorary inductee.  I wanted to create a place for the next generation of wine industry families to study the best practices of wine business," Heck explained when asked why he helped establish the Wine Business Institute.

"Gary's vision for wine business education made an enormous difference not only in the local area but throughout the wine industry of California.  This is exemplified by the graduates who occupy posts throughout the state in operations large and small," explained Ray Johnson, Director of the Wine Business Institute.

Heck and all others being inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma on Sunday took the oath, "I pledge myself to maintain and uphold the ideals and principles of Beta Gamma Sigma, the scholastic business honor society.  I will guard and cherish Honor; I will strive ever to acquire Wisdom and use it for the betterment of mankind; and I will cultivate Earnestness in all my undertakings."

Beta Gamma Sigma is the international honor society serving business programs accredited by AACSB International- The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.  Achieving initial accreditation in 2007, the Department of Business Administration's Bachelor of Science and MBA programs are among the 15% of all business schools in the world that meet the standards for accreditation.
