Sonoma Clean Power (SCP) is the new, locally controlled electricity provider in Sonoma County. SCP is a local public authority, independently run by the Sonoma County cities that join the program and the County, which represents unincorporated communities. SCP is shattering paradigms by unseating the power monopoly and inviting Sonoma County electricity users to participate in their own destinies. Examples of Duties:
Provides highly responsible and professional assistance to the CEO and the SCP Board for public and internal communications in the development of the Authority's community outreach programs; exercises management responsibility for assigned services and activities of the SCP's public affairs functions including active communication with federal, state, and local elected officials and their efforts to advocate the SCP's interest in legislative issues; manages and coordinates outside consultants retained to provide website services, graphic, writing, advertising, and other related work; establishes rapport, builds coalitions, and coordinates with similar agencies through leadership positions in membership associations and committees in order to promote the SCP; develops and maintains good relationships with the local business community, business owners, and managers; makes presentations at local community and business events, seminars, and meetings; prepares news releases and public service announcements and other public information materials; responds to and resolves difficult and sensitive citizen inquires and complaints; manages and participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned programs in order to market and promote SCO; develops, administers, and provides training to establish professional customer service programs.
The following qualifications are guidelines, as the appointing authority has broad discretion in filling this position.
Equivalent of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public relations, communication, journalism, or a related field. Master's degree desirable, AND,
Ten (10) years of increasingly responsible experience in the development and administration of public relations and community outreach programs. At least three (3) years of that experience in a public relations position managing people and projects. Public utility agency experience desirable. Spanish language proficiency is desirable.
Administration of a proactive marketing and public affairs program that influences the development of legislation, public relations, and community outreach policies necessary to promote the mission and goals of the SCP; public sector organizational and administrative practices, including applicable Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations; methods, operational characteristics, services, and activities necessary for effective community outreach; methods and technologies for developing effective customer service programs; methods, techniques, and technologies of effective business and energy marketing program management; methods, techniques, and technologies for effective written and graphics copy to be used for marketing, advertising, website, and other written or electronic forms of communication; office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and specialized software applications programs for spreadsheets, data bases, Word, Power Point, Publisher, Excel, social median and web CMS.
Oversee and participate in the development and management of a comprehensive public affairs and customer service program; establish effective and cooperative working relationships with SCP staff, customers, local businesses, community groups, interested stakeholders, the SCP Board, and elected officials of municipalities, agencies, special districts, and other related agencies; work independently, using good judgment and initiative in carrying out assignments; be persuasive and professional in verbal and written communications with multiple constituencies; prepare and administer the budget for the SCP's public affairs and marketing programs; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Speak effectively in public to large groups; effectively represent the SCP to outside individuals, municipalities, businesses, interested stakeholders, and other related agencies to accomplish the SCP goals and objectives; respond tactfully, clearly, concisely, and appropriate to inquires from the public, press, or other agencies on sensitive issues.

Salary: The Salary Range for this position is $85,000 to $120,000. Salary will be established depending on qualifications. The SCP provides a competitive benefits package.
