Mission Statement

The School of Business and Economics supports the mission of the University and serves the community by offering high quality relevant education in business and economics to aspiring and practicing professionals, managers, and entrepreneurs in the private and public sectors. Our programs are offered within a small liberal arts and sciences orientation where faculty emphasize the development and continuous improvement of critical analysis skills, problem solving techniques, intellectual creativity and effective communication.

Our Goals

To fulfill its mission, the school pursues the following goals in the areas of Student Learning, Intellectual Activity, and Service.

Student Learning

To achieve this goal the school provides for its students

  1. a teaching-learning environment in business and economics related fields that promotes successful learning
  2. the disciplinary knowledge, skills, and values necessary for lifelong academic and professional achievement
  3. the opportunities to foster critical thinking, creative expression, and mastery of analytical tools
  4. the fundamentals of multi-cultural management, effective communication, teamwork and leadership
  5. a well-rounded liberal arts education by requiring a broad-based selection of general education courses outside the school
  6. the advice and guidance to enable culturally diverse students to complete a rigorous degree program.
Intellectual Activities

The school seeks to continuously improve faculty teaching and expertise by

  1. Rewarding research and scholarly activity
  2. Supporting activities that enhance continuous improvement of instruction and research skills
  3. Recruiting and retaining faculty who are committed to research and related intellectual pursuits
  4. Encouraging faculty to integrate current research and thinking in their teaching
  5. Promoting joint faculty student collaboration in research and scholarly activity

Service

The School seeks to serve the University, the community, and professional organizations by

  1. Encouraging faculty to participate actively in University governance
  2. Supporting student organizations and activities
  3. Promoting collaborative relationships with public and private organizations
  4. Offering specialized training, assistance, and conferences to individuals and organizations
  5. Participating in the activities of professional organizations
