Wine Business MBA Program Description

The Wine Business MBA program (33 units) consists of the following course sequence:
- eMBArk Weekend
- 4 Core Courses
- 3 Wine Business Theme Courses
- 2 Elective Courses
- 1 Capstone Experience

Your MBA experience begins with an immersion weekend that combines academic planning, network development and practice case analysis skills. An essential part of the eMBArk weekend is the Insights Discovery Evaluator, a lifelong system for optimizing personal and professional effectiveness. Throughout the MBA program, Insights is used in conjunction with classroom learning and teaming opportunities to provide learning that is information rich, fun, and immediately transferable to work and life.
4 Core Courses (12 units)
The MBA core courses are a cluster of graduate business courses that provide a base knowledge upon which other courses and theme areas build. In your first year, you complete the four core courses as a cohort, a group study model that builds relationships and mirrors a team workforce environment. Wine business students typically work together to focus on wine business projects. Two courses are completed in the Fall Semester and two courses are completed in the Spring Semester. The four core courses which are prerequisites for all other courses are:
- Business Intelligence
- Cost Analysis and Control
- Managerial Finance
- Managing Human Captial
3 Wine Business Theme Courses (9 units)
Breadth of exposure and relevance to today's wine industry is ensured by taking one course in each of three theme areas: Leadership and Ethics, International Business and Global Issues, and Contemporary Business Issues. Sample of courses in each theme area include:
- Leadership and Ethics
- Wine Industry Compliance and Law
- Sustainability in the Wine Hospitality Industry
- International Business and Global Issues
- Global Wine Business
- Global Marketing Strategies
- International Supply Chain Management
- Contemporary Business Issues
- Marketing and Sales Strategies for Wine
- Hospitality and Wine Tourism Management
2 Elective Courses (6 units)
You gain depth in your areas of interest by choosing two electives from any theme area, or by setting up a special study experience, or an internship project. Examples include: Sustainability, Global Marketing Strategies or Game Theory.
1 Capstone Experience (5 units)
You put it all together in a final business strategy course (3 units) that requires you to develop a comprehensive strategic plan for an existing business or a business plan for a new wine venture, and conclude with a final immersion experience (2 units).
All MBA courses are scheduled to meet once per week from 7:00pm - 9:40pm, Monday - Thursday evenings.
All courses applied to the program must be completed with an overall GPA of 3.00, and no course for which a final grade below C is assigned may be used to satisfy this requirement. Graduate programs must be completed in no more than 7 years, which is computed as 14 semesters.
