Below are some of the job descriptions that we have available at the American Red Cross.  We have had many successful interns and would encourage more.  Also, please encourage students to contact me with any ideas they may have.

2008 INTERN  OPPORTUNITIES 

 

 

-------Disaster Services

 

Disaster Preparedness – work with local youth to reach out to young audiences. Provide them with vital information about potential disaster hazards.  Help the community prepare for and respond to emergency situations.

 

Community Ambassador – (training provided) various times as requested (daytime, evenings, weekends) Be on of a team of volunteers who represent the American Red Cross at various community events (such as workplace and neighborhood safety fairs) to help promote disaster preparedness.

 

Disaster Communications Team - no specific time or schedule; some work can be done from home. 

Keep team roster current & communications notebook updated., make arrangements for team meetings, drills, preparation for disasters, etc.

 

------Communications & Public Affairs

 

Public Affairs Intern - promote the Red Cross through media relations activities (write press releases and PSAÕs, contact print, radio and TV

reporters and editors, research and write stories).

Fundraising Event Planning / Real Heroes Team - There are numerous opportunities for those seeking to help with the Real Heroes Breakfast. You can research and prepare nomination forms about heroes, promote the

event through press releases, work on organizing guest and sponsor lists, and much more. You'll develop organizational, interviewing, researching, and other skills while you help with our largest fundraiser

of the year.

3rd Annual Young Filmmakers Showcase, November 21st

¥  Become part of the committee or crew – help promote,   screen for and staff the event.

¥        Submit a film – Entries due October 19th.

--------Health & Safety

 

Vamos a Nadar Bilingual Spanish Coordinator (April 1-July 15) For the past three years, in partnership with Sonoma County Water Safety Committee, Sonoma County Chapter-American Red Cross has offered Saturday

sessions of free swimming lessons and water safety presentations in Spanish. This year there will six sessions at various pools throughout Sonoma County and we are in need of a coordinator to assist our Health

and Safety Director with administrative duties (i.e. registrations and course materials).    Time commitment will vary, and will become heavy the weeks preceding the events.

CPR & First Aid Instructor – ($12/ hour) Teach people how to save lives by becoming an instructor with flexible hours and a national certification that travels with you.  Expand your training to Babysitter

Training, Pet first aid, California Childcare and more.  Training fees waiver available.
