Macy’s West Is Where Careers Happen

A career at Macy’s West holds endless opportunity for professional growth.  By working with you to find the perfect place to shine, Macy’s West is able to maintain a corporate environment that focuses on its people, as much as on its sales performance.  The Management Development Program and Buying Development Program are specifically designed to prepare Executive Trainees for a prosperous career in retail.  The Summer Internship Program is designed to provide a general introduction to the world of retail.

SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Macy's West hosts a split internship.  The Internship is a 10-week program that runs mid-June to mid-August and is located in the SF Bay Area.  It is a paid internship, 40 hours per week.  Interns spend their first 5 weeks hosted by a group sales manager in one of our branch stores in the SF Bay Area and their second 5 weeks hosted by a buyer/assistant buyer in our offices in Downtown San Francisco.  With the partnership of their host supervisors, the interns learn about how we run our business and continue to grow in a dynamic industry.  The Interns are also assigned individual projects, where they have the opportunity to present research that they attain throughout the internship to executives in their stores and buying offices.  For the 2008 Summer Internship Program, we are looking for candidates who have completed their Junior year and have one of the following graduation dates- December 2008 or May/June 2009.

MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The Management Development Program is a full-time Executive Development Program.  It is a 3-month program that combines practical experience with classroom instruction to prepare Executive Trainees for their role as a Group Sales Manager in our stores.  Through on-the-job training, Management Trainees gain the necessary skills needed to lead and supervise their teams in creating a meaningful, challenging and fun work environment to achieve their business goals.  Management positions provide hands-on experience in merchandising, human resources, selling, leadership, stock placement and customer service.  This program is offered two times per year, February and July.  This position is offered in Northern and Southern CA.  Candidates must be flexible and willing to accept positions in any Macy’s West store location.

BUYING DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The Buying Development Program is a full-time Executive Development Program.  Through on-the-job experience and classroom instruction, this 3-month program is designed to prepare trainees for their first merchant role as an Assistant Buyer.  In the buying office, the trainee will learn their key areas of responsibility, including merchandise procurement, advertising and marketing, maintenance of shipping logs, daily sales tracking and communicating with vendors.  The Buying Development Program includes a brief Storeline assignment with a Merchandise Team Manager.  This program is offered two times per year, February and July.  Candidates must be willing to work in the San Francisco Bay Area.
