Student Resource Center: Internships

Letter of Opportunity

Dear Potential Intern Sponsor:

About ten years ago the Department of Business Administration began operating its own internship program independently of the Office of Career Planning and Guidance. Operating with no budgeted resources our efforts have been modest yet effective. We now consistently place 80 to 100 interns each year in the local community.

Under the leadership of Interim Dean William Silver, the School of Business and Economics is committed to expanding and improving both the number of internships we jointly sponsor and the quality of our efforts. To that end I have been appointed the Internship Director for the School of Business and Economics. In this capacity it will be my responsibility to systematically:

  1. Develop internship opportunities for our students,
  2. Develop close relationships with organizations sponsoring internships, and
  3. Track the outcome of internship experiences both from the point of view of the intern and the sponsoring organization.

In pursuit of our goals please consider sponsoring an internship for a student in the School of Business and Economics. The School offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics with concentrations in business economics, computer applications in economics, and international economics. The Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration includes concentrations in accounting, finance, human resource management, international business, management, marketing, and wine business. Students with special expertise in each of these areas are available for internships.

The process for seeking an intern is simple. Just write an Internship Opportunity Announcement on your letterhead and submit to duane.dove@sonoma.edu. Electronic submission is preferred. With your information we will attempt to find an intern that fits your needs.

On the home page of the internship program, I have included a list of frequently asked questions that will hopefully answer many of your concerns. Please feel free to call me at 664-2954 if you have any further questions.

Sincerely,

Duane Dove, Ph.D. SPHR

Internship Director
