Regional Economic Development

We cannot ignore the connections that make the North Bay a regional economy; in fact, our community must find ways of harnessing synergies and taking advantage of them.  This is the essence of a community economic vision.

A Call to Action

In the current economic downturn, maybe more than any other in recent memory, counties and cities must work together and act regionally.  Real estate and retail markets between counties are linked; the median home prices in Sonoma, Napa and Marin counties are 95% correlated since 1995.  Labor moves freely between our counties and cities, and the business cycles in these counties are also highly correlated.

SSU recognizes an opportunity to educate city councils and mayors, county supervisors, our local state senators, and other elected officials why a regional way of thinking is the future of the North Bay.  Our local businesses already think this way by necessity but must also communicate with local public policy makers on a common vision and solutions to common problems.

Our Center for Regional Economic Analysis (CREA) has acted as a place where regional businesses and North Bay municipalities have found common answers to the economic development and public policy questions they share. It provides first-rate research, data, and analysis for local industry and governments.

Read our call to action published in the North Bay Business Journal then join us and our colleagues around the region not just to think regionally, but to act regionally. Contact Dean William Silver with your ideas.
