Academic Advising

Changes in Status

Change to Classified Graduate Student

Many students are admitted to the University in Conditionally Classified standing with contingencies to complete prior to becoming a Classified student. This admission does not guarantee a space in the graduate program. Such a guarantee is obtained by a change in graduate standing to Classified status. Upon completion of the foundation courses and any other contingencies, MBA students must send a letter to the MBA Director requesting a change of status. At the time this status is confirmed, a form is filed by the MBA Director with the Admissions and Records Office and the Graduate Studies Office confirming the department's approval of this change in status.

Advancement to Candidacy

Master's degree students are advanced to candidacy when the department has assessed the academic and professional capacities of the student, and is convinced that the student has the competence to complete all requirements for the degree, including the Culminating Project. Advancement to candidacy is done by filing the Advancement to Candidacy form (GSO1), which describes the Culminating Project, is approved by student's project committee, signed by the MBA Coordinator and is reviewed by the Associate Vice President for Academic Programs.

MBA students file the Advancement to Candidacy form (GSO1) prior to starting the Culminating Project. Students doing the Culminating Project in their capstone course will be advised by their instructor. Students doing an individual project must file the GSO1 form prior to enrolling in BUS 599 Masters Degree Directed Research.

After completion and defense of the project all candidates for graduation must file a Completion of Requirements Form (GSO2).

Approximately one year prior to completion of the degree requirements all students must complete an Application for Award of Master's Degree with Admissions and Records. Deadlines for completion of the form are found in the University Calendar.
