University Scholarship Program Application

The University Scholarship Program is designed to provide encouragement and public recognition to students who have demonstrated academic excellence. Scholarships range from $500 to $5,000 per year. The primary criterion for awards from the University Scholarship Program is outstanding scholarship with restrictions applying to some awards, e.g., residence, major, etc. Your accurate completion of the scholarship application will ensure you are considered for every scholarship for which you qualify. Please read the following carefully. In order to be considered for a Sonoma State University scholarship, applicants must be a continuing student or a new student who has applied for admission for the 2017/2018 academic year and is planning to attend SSU full-time in a degree or credential program. If you are a new applicant to SSU, please make sure you have activated your My SSU account login before you attempt to apply for scholarships. This can be done here. All scholarship applicants must use their My SSU login user name and password to access the scholarship application.

Scholarship Application Requirements

Outstanding academic achievement including a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale is required. This GPA is calculated on your unweighted, cumulative GPA as determined by Admissions and Records, including the Fall semester preceding the application period. Applicants must submit a complete application by the deadline date in order to be considered. You will be asked to provide the names and emails of two people who have agreed to submit a letter of recommendation for you. It is strongly preferred the recommenders be your present or former instructors or others familiar with your academic and creative achievements/potential.

Please be prepared to provide two separate statements/essay. The first is a short statement regarding your financial neediness and is only required of the students who answer "yes" to needing financial assistance to attend college on the application. The second is an essay addressing your academic record and achievements, any honors received, and your academic ability and potential and is required of all students. Specific instructions and guidelines for the essay portion can be reviewed here.
