FEES AND ELIGIBILITY

SSU and CSU CURRENTLY ENROLLED STUDENTS:

* The Student Health Center is funded by a Mandatory Student Health Fee paid each semester along with other campus registration fees.

* This prepaid fee allows regularly enrolled SSU students to receive most Basic Service health care and health education services free of additional charge during the academic semester(s) of their enrollment.

* In addition to the free Basic Services funded by the Mandatory Student Health Fee, the Student Health Center offers Augmented Services and Summer Services for which there are nominal additional charges.

* Proof of Eligibility: Students should bring their Student ID card to Health Center visits as verification of enrollment. Enrollment status will also be verified through the central campus computer system. * Those found to be ineligible for free basic services are financially responsible for the cost of services received.

CSU STUDENTS WHO ARE NOT REGULARLY ENROLLED

There is no mechanism for billing of insurance or other third party payers by SSU. All point of service fees are due and payable by cash or check at the time of service. A receipt is provided for those wishing to seek reimbursement from their insurance company. Individuals in the following PRE-APPROVED CATEGORIES may receive some Health Center Services on a discounted fee for service basis.
  • Continuing SSU & CSU students during summer break - Summer Services
  • Summer Session students taking SSU credit classes - Summer Services
  • Previous SSU students completing their thesis - Regular Services & Summer Services:
  • Summer Bridge and Summer Upward Bound Students - Summer Services:
  • Faculty and Staff: TB tests, routine immunizations, Travel Clinic & travel vaccines
  • Faculty and staff with minor work injuries - reimbursed by Workers Comp
  • SSALI Students - pay Mandatory Health Fee for Regular Services and discounted fee for service for Summer Services
  • Counseling Interns working in the SSU Counseling and Psychological Services Program
  • Extended Education Students currently enrolled in the following university credit, degree, or certificate classes or programs including:
    • Open University
    • Liberal Studies Degree Completion Programs
    • Nursing MS and FNP
    • Psychology MA Degree Programs
    • Teacher Internship Program
    • Attorney Assistant Program
    • Interdisciplinary Studies MA Degree Program

What About Health Insurance?

* Health Insurance is not required to use the Student Health Center. *Most Student Health Center services are provided to regularly enrolled SSU students without additional charge. Nominal fees are charged for some supplemental services such as specialized lab tests and medications. In these instances fee levels are heavily discounted and fees must be paid in cash or by check at the time of service. There is no mechanism for billing insurance by SSU. A receipt is provided for individuals wishing to seek reimbursement from their insurance company on their own.

* Supplemental Health Insurance is recommended in the event that a student needs off campus medical or hospital services. A low cost private supplemental plan is available through the Associated Students Office for those who do not have private health insurance. * International Students and those residing in campus residence halls are required by California State University policy to carry health insurance. Consult the International Students Office and/or campus Housing Office for more information.
