INTERNSHIPS Please note: As of Fall 2008, the Sociology internship requirements have been revised. In Fall 2008, Sociology students doing internships will be required to take a 1-credit Internship Practicum course during the same semester in which they receive sociology credit for their internship. All internships must be approved by the course instructor and will require attendance at a weekly class meeting. If you will be receiving credit for an internship in Fall 2008 (including credit for hours completed during summer), you must enroll in a section of the Fall 2008 Internship Practicum course during Reg. 1 or Reg. 2: Soci 497.7: Internship Practicum, Wednesdays, 6:00 – 6:50 pm (1 credit, C/NC) Soci 497.8: Internship Practicum, Thursdays, 12:00 – 12:50 pm (1 credit, C/NC) Students enrolled in the Internship Practicum will receive credit for the internship itself through Sociology 499. As in the past, students are eligible to receive 1 credit for every 45 hours completed at the internship field site, with a maximum of 4 credits per semester. Enrollment in Sociology 499 will be done at the start of the Fall semester through the internship contract form, which must be submitted within the first two weeks of the semester. Enrollment in the Internship Practicum is optional for students who have successfully completed Sociology 499 in the past. Only 4 credits total of Soci 490 or Soci 499 count toward the requirements for the Sociology major or minor. See the description for Sociology 497 (Internship Practicum) for details on course content: SOCI 497 (Sections 7-8) Information & Orientation Meetings For more details on Fall internships, attend one of the following information and orientation meetings.
