C. WRIGHT MILLS AWARD
2007 C. Wright Mills Award
The Department of Sociology is pleased to announce that Laura Chandler and Lianna Hart have received the 2007 C. Wright Mills Award for Sociological Imagination. The Mills Award is bestowed upon the best student paper from the previous academic year (2006-07). The Department decided to honor two students this year. Laura Chandler received the award for her paper “Cohousing: Community Formation and Enactment,” which she wrote for Sociology 498 (Senior Seminar, Spring 2007). Lianna Hart earned the award for her paper “Enacting Ideologies: Autism and the Maternal Role,” which she wrote for Sociology 495 (Special Study, Fall 2006, Spring 2007). Congratulations, Laura and Lianna!
2006 C. Wright Mills Award
The Department of Sociology is pleased to announce that Melanie Snook is the recipient of the C. Wright Mills Award for Sociological Imagination for 2006. The Mills Award is bestowed on the best student paper from the previous academic year (2005-06) and was given to Melanie for her paper titled "Building Family Daycare," which she wrote for Sociology 498 (Senior Seminar). Melanie graduated from SSU with a degree in Sociology in Spring 2006. In addition, Andrea C. Cox was awarded an Honorable Mention for her paper “Perceptions of Home: Social Construction, Identity, Place Attachment, and Gender,” which was also written for Sociology 498. Congratulations, Melanie and Andrea!
2005 C. Wright Mills Award
The Department of Sociology is pleased to announce that Kristine Snyder is the recipient of the department's C. Wright Mills Award for Sociological Imagination for 2005. The Mills Award is bestowed on the best student paper from the previous academic year (2004-05) and was given to Kristine for her paper titled "The Social Development of the Adopted Self," which she wrote under the guidance of Professor Kathy Charmaz. Kristine graduated from SSU with a degree in Sociology in Spring 2005 and is now applying to graduate school.
