Jessica K. Taft holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of California at Santa Barbara. She received her Bachelor's degree in Women's and Gender Studies from Macalester College and her Master's in Sociology from UCSB. Her research and teaching interests include girls' studies, social movements and political consciousness, globalization, transnational feminist theory, youth culture, and participatory and qualitative research methods. She has published articles on teenage girls' conceptions of politics, competing discourses of girl power, and the dynamics of race and age in research with girls. She is currently working toward publishing her dissertation, a multi-site political ethnography of teenage girl activists and their participation in social movements against neoliberalism and for global justice in five cities in the Americas.
