The School of Social Sciences offers knowledge and skills that prepare our graduates to live richly rewarding personal, professional, and social lives while understanding and appreciating human complexity in a global society. The school contributes to the political, economic, and cultural literacy of its citizens through the expansion and preservation of knowledge. It is a regional center for active social change and human betterment, advocacy, and planning. The school maintains an environment conducive to personal and professional growth attained through equality, shared governance, and open communication.

Holocaust & Genocide Memorial Grove
The memorial to remember victims of genocide was formally dedicated on March 29th. Watch the filming of the dedication ceremony on youtube and visit the Memorial Grove website.

Green Building Certificate Program
The new six-month GREEN BUILDING CERTIFICATE PROGRAM begins Saturday, January 31 with the first class, "An Overview of Sustainability and the
Built Environment"
from 8:30-4:30 in Darwin Hall 103 on the Sonoma State University campus.

Jewish Studies Program

Bring your lunch and enjoy a variety of lectures by SSU Faculty. Click here to get dates and topics for lectures scheduled during the Fall 2009 semester. All lectures are held in Stevenson Hall 2011 from 12-1pm.

Excellence in Teaching Award
Please join us in congratulating Karin Enstam-Jaffe for receiving the Excellence in Teaching Award this year. This year, instead of the usual two awards, only one was bestowed upon a deserving teacher. We are proud to note that she is a representative of our School. Congratulations, Karin!

Fulbright Scholar Program
The Fulbright Scholar Program is a flagship international education exchange program sponsored by the US Government, designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.

Dr. Steve Estes, History, has been awarded a Fulbright Senior Lecturing Fellowship in Germany from April to July 2010. He'll be teaching two classes on American history at the University of Erfurt. Erfurt is in the state of Thuringia, a state that was in East Germany before reunification two decades ago. On the Fulbright, Dr. Estes will be teaching an undergrad class on the History of the American South and a class for MA students on the American Civil Rights Movement.

Dave McCuan, Ph.D., Political Science, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture at Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic during the 2009-2010 academic year. His responsibilities will include courses on Terrorism and International Law, US Foreign Policy Since World War Two as well as Elections and Electoral Behavior. Princeton Fellowship
For academic year 2009-10, Dr. Amy Kittelstrom will be a fellow in Christian Thought and Practice at the Center for the Study of Religion at Princeton University. The year will be devoted entirely to completing her first book, The Religion of Democracy: Liberals and Self-Culture in Evolutionary America, 1838-1912.
