There is nothing wrong with my music
Laurel Carman, A & E Editor

I love all music, whether it is rock, indie, world, rap, alternative, folk, I love listening to it. I even like to listen to, now hold your breath and say your prayers, pop and country.

I feel like other people are looking me down on just because of my willingness to buy the latest Britney album. Yes she isn’t the best singer and yes she doesn’t write her own music, but it make me want to dance and above all, it makes me happy.

One time I bought a pop album I got harassed by the clerk. He offered to buy me another, “better” CD. The next time I bought one of those albums at a different store, I tried to lie and say it was a birthday present for my niece. Of course, since I’m a bad liar, it didn’t work and was even more embarrassed.

There have been countless times when a passenger in my car thinks it’s funny to role down the window and pretend to throw out some of my CDs. Why do people do this? I would never intentionally make fun of someone else’s music, and if I have done than chances are it was during middle school when I didn’t want to admit the joy of The Spice Girls.

There is a reason why it’s called “pop.” It stands for popular, which means that if it is popular than a lot of people out their will like it. All artists, if they sell a lot of records, to some extent are “pop” artists.”

Country gets the same amount of flack. We have all heard someone claim that they listen to all music…except country. Country music influences so many genres. Not to mention artists like Shania Twain and Keith Urban who are crossover hits. Is it now acceptable to listen to them because they are on different Billboard chart?

Music should be enjoyed. If you don’t like it, don’t listen to it. It’s as simple as that.
