The next Vick experience
Brian Jeffcoat, Sports Editor

After his brother went on to make himself the most exciting player in the NFL, Marcus Vick, is following his footsteps at Virginia Tech. Or is he?

Vick took over the quarterback position this season after being suspended from the University last season. Michael, his brother also starred at Virginia Tech playing quarterback.

Vick was suspended after he was arrested, along with teammates Mike Imoh and Brenden Hill, for giving alcohol to 14 and 15 year old girls last February. He avoided jail by pleading no contest to a misdemeanor charge and a fine in September. Vick also had sex with one of these girls and he was 19.

I have no idea why Vick would do something like this. His brother already made him a millionaire whether Marcus steps on a professional field in his career or not. There is even speculation that Marcus could be better then Michael. I don't understand how Vick can sit down with girls who just entered High School and actually serve them alcohol. Something would just click in my head saying your looking at five to ten for what you are doing. Then he has sex with one of them. Marcus might be a great football player but he has no game with college ladies I guess. In my eyes, a college star should be able to have a chance with any girl he wants as long as he is winning. I guess he just thought he had a better chance with the toddlers.

Vick isn't done with outside trouble, he also later pleaded guilty to reckless driving and no contest to marijuana possession after police stopped him last July. He made himself obvious on this charge. He was driving 86 mph in a 21 mph zone and then that led to the marijuana find. His mistakes in college can comeback and hurt him when it’s draft day as he could slip down in the draft.

As part of a plea agreement in that case, Vick was placed in a drug offender program that required him to perform 24 hours of community service, undergo drug counseling and random drug tests and give up his driver's license for six months.

Marcus is screwing up would could be a great career. In 2003, Marcus was the backup quarterback for Bryan Randall after red shirting his first year. Now Randall is out so it’s time for Vick to step up.

On Sept. 31, Virginia Tech took on West Virginia as Vick threw for three touchdowns and ran for another. Vick was 15-17 passing for 177 yards and ran for a season high 74 yards. Virginia Tech won 34-17 and rank third in the nation.

Vick now 20 years old has the NFL in sight and a popular name on the back of his jersey to get him there. He needs to keep his snake in his cage and not worry about outsiders from football. He is a public name and people will try to get their name out through him.
