Co-op Team Leader

Title: Sauv CommUNITY Co-op Team Leader
Department: Residential Life, Administration and Finance
Position Offered: Student Assistant/Federal Work Study
Compensation: 7-9 Hours/Week @ $8.00/hr

Summary Description:

By joining the Sauvignon CommUNITY, students seek and commit to active involvement in cooperative (Co-op) teams, which are designed to foster positive community, investment, and pride in the students' living environment. Students choosing to live in the Sauvignon CommUNITY will be required to participate as a member of a Co-op Team. The Co-op Team Leader will work in a specific building in conjunction with the Community Service Advisors and one or two other Co-op Team Leaders. This team of CSAs and Co-op Team Leaders play a critical role in helping residents to realize ownership of their community. To effectively implement and manage the Sauvignon CommUNITY, each Co-op Team Leader will work with their students to educate them about their respective Co-op Team and to put on programs for their community. Co-op Team Leaders will work approximately 7- 9 hours per week with their respective Co-op Teams to oversee student participation and to facilitate programs.

In each building within the Sauvignon CommUNITY, residents will actively participate in one of the following Co-op Teams:

  • Academic Success
  • Life Skills
  • Mind, Body and Spirit
  • Sustainability

Each Co-Op Team Leader will lead a team of students in one or two of these focus areas. This is a year-long commitment. Co-op Team Leaders must be available in late August and for on-going training as determined by supervisor. Co-op Team Leaders must also be available to meet from 1 pm-3 pm on Fridays.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Advise Co-op Team
Provide general leadership and direction to approximately 60 students in one or two Co-op Team areas within a building. This will include assistance with programming initiatives and monitoring the involvement of each participant.

2. Coordinate with Community Development Coordinator
Maintain contact with the Community Development Coordinator to monitor student progress and keep informed of all program initiatives.

3. Work Collaboratively With Community Service Advisors (CSAs)
Communicate effectively with the CSAs in the Sauvignon CommUNITY to mutually build a positive living and learning environment for each resident. This will include developing mentoring relationships with residents in your assigned building, identifying and upholding community standards, and participating in regular Sauvignon CommUNITY staff development.

4. Programming
Create, plan, implement, oversee and evaluate programs individually and as part of a team for the Sauvignon CommUNITY. This will make up a large portion of this position.

5. Build Community
Provide opportunities for students to feel connected within their living environment through Co-op Team Meetings, one-on-one meetings, intentional interactions, and planned events.

6. Selection and Recruitment
Assist in the recruitment and hiring process for new students entering Seawolf Leadership positions.

Qualifications:

1. Required:

Mature, self-motivated, quick learner, able to work independently with minimum supervision and in teams. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills needed. Extensive knowledge of the Sonoma State University campus and programs. Must be able to work with diverse populations. Satisfactory completion of University 238 course (B or better.) Minimum cumulative, and semesterly, GPA of 2.5 at time of application and must maintain 2.5 GPA throughout employment. Must have the ability to be available in the residential community on a regular basis. Good conduct standing with Residential Life and the University.

Must keep Fridays 1 pm-3 pm open for In-Service
Must be available to attend Co-op Team Leader Pre-Service on Friday, April 11, 2013 from 2 pm-5 pm.

2. Preferred:

Minimum of 2 semesters completed at SSU by Fall 2014. Basic knowledge of computers (Excel and Microsoft Word), SSU e-mail, and other campus computer systems. Prior on-campus living experience..

Work Schedule:

Programming and Supervision of Co-op students (organizing and leading meetings, check-ins, planning and attending programs, etc); 4 hours

Administrative (emails, tracking students progress); 2 hours

Meetings with Supervisor/Staff; 3 hours

Total: 7-9 hours a week
