Homecoming Weekend Fall 2012

Take a mid-semester break and enjoy a weekend of fun events at Sonoma State University! You will have the opportunity to participate in many different events on campus and spend a weekend with your SSU student.

Schedule of Events

Below is the tentative schedule of events for the weekend. Additional events will be added to this schedule in the coming weeks so check back frequently.

Friday, October 12th.

  • Check-in, 12:00pm—4:30pm for registered Homecoming Weekend guests
  • Theatre Arts Performance — "Bad Penny" — 5:00 pm. In "Bad Penny" a drifter moves from Montana to New York City where he soon gets a flat tire and goes wandering across Central Park to find a gas station. When a stranger finds a "bad penny" that supposedly will bring bad luck, the advice soon dive bombs into crazy skepticism about life, the universe and everything.
  • Women's Volleyball vs. Cal Poly Pomona —7:00pm

Saturday, October 13th.

  • Check in, 9:00am — 1:00pm for registered Homecoming Weekend guests
  • Pre-soccer game Tailgate Party — 10:00 am Spend some time with other SSU parents and students and meet Provost Rogerson. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
  • Men's Soccer vs. Cal State Monterey Bay — 11:30am
  • SSU Music Department Concert Collage — 1:00pm Parents and family of music students will want to check out this annual Music Department showcase, juxtaposing the Chorus, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Jazz Orchestra, Contemporary Jazz Ensemble, Latin Band, chamber musicians and vocal and instrumental soloists in unforgettable visual and aural spectacle.
  • THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT! Sips, Bites & Bids — 2:00 pm at the Lakes: SSU Alumni Association presents a Wine and Cheese Tasting Adventure, featuring the University's Wine Business Institute Alumni Council and some of the best Sonoma, Napa, and Mendocino County wines and cheeses. Attendees may also tour Sound, Image, Object: The Marriage of Art and Music, the current exhibition at the University Art Gallery, while listening to live music.   • ASP and The SCENE Presents: Mentalist, Brian Imbus @7:30pm; Person This intriguing performance will leave the audience stunned and amazed. He reads the mind of audience members, predicts the lottery, and even winds up in near-fatal situations for the entertainment of the participants. This show is completely out of this world and sure to make all the cogs in your brain spin! FREE!

  • • Karina Gauvin concert — 8:00pm, Weill Hall. Weill Hall at Sonoma State University is a 1,400-seat world-class concert hall located on the campus of Sonoma State University. The Grand Opening takes places September 29, 2012, and already an impressive array of artists is lined up for the inaugural season.
    • As a way to show our thanks to you, the parents and families of our Sonoma State University students- we are extending our student discount to you (50% off each ticket!) for the Karina Gauvin concert on Saturday, October 13th, at 8 p.m. in Weill Hall. This concert is conveniently scheduled during Parents and Family Weekend, October 12-14th 2012. Extend a night out with the family and make reservations for our on-site restaurant, Prelude, open before, during and after the show. This is a perfect way to spend an evening with those closest to you, without leaving the Sonoma State University campus.
    • Canadian soprano Karina Gauvin is a rising star on both the concert and opera stages of the world. Praised for her luscious timbre, profound musicality and wide vocal range, Gauvin has performed with the world's leading orchestras and conductors.
