Dear (Name of Representative),
I strongly oppose Governor Brown’s budget proposal for 2012-13 and the severe cuts to early education and care that may destroy high quality early education programs.
I fear the planned cuts in early childhood education will be a severe detriment not only for the youngest and most promising of your constituents, but also for the long term viability of this economy.
Perhaps the worst part of the proposal eliminates higher education as an eligibility factor for student families who are trying to achieve a degree while having their child in an excellent early education setting. This support for families pursuing higher education is especially important to ensure that as families enter the California workforce, they are in careers that will allow them to support their families.
For every dollar invested in early education and care programs, the economy sees a return of four. By giving children the education they deserve and cutting from elsewhere in the budget, you maximize every possibility that this state-and everyone in it-prospers.
Children thrive in early education schools in ways we are still counting. My child currently attends the Children’s School at Sonoma State University. The school, which is nationally accredited by NAEYC, provides high quality care for my child, allowing me to ___________. Without this program, my family would ____. I have seen firsthand the eagerness and love children have for learning. They are the future, and right now I must be their voice. I implore you to remove these planned cuts for the sake of our children.
Sincerely,

FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITIES
eScrip
Dear Friends and Families of the Children’s School,
YOU can help the Children’s School’s finances by signing up for eScrip. Once signed up, an automatic contribution goes to the Children’s School with every purchase you make, donating to the school is as easy as going grocery shopping! There are two sign-up options:
- Pick up a community card at a store like Oliver’s (I keep mine on my keychain), register the card online and swipe it every time you shop to give 3% to the Children’s School. Use SSU Children's School Parent Club eScrip Group ID – 5824735 when registering. I have registration sheets for Oliver’s, let me know if you’d like one and I’ll leave it in your child’s binder. http://www.escrip.com/merchants/identity/olivers/index.jsp
- Register your credit and debit cards through the eScrip website to have a percentage of all your card’s purchases donated. Log onto escript.com, enter our Group ID – 5824735, register debit and credit cards, and shop at merchants with your registered card. http://groups.escrip.com/promo/the_grade.pdf
It takes no more than 15 minutes to pick up a community card and register it or to go online and designate the Children’s School as a recipient of your donation. If you need help with any step of the process, let me know and I’ll do my best to assist. I’ve included some links below with more information about the stores involved and how easy it is to sign up.

Sonoma County AEYC Mini-Conference at The Children's School

The Second Annual Mini-Conference: "SUSTAIN: Sustaining Ourselves, Our Field and Our Earth" held at The Children's School was a huge success! We were thrilled with the turnout - we had over 60 participants and 15 presenters from all over Northern California - from Big Sur to Cloverdale!
The presentations covered a range of wonderful topics that celebrated our natural environments and healthy living.
Topics included:
How to celebrate and explore the earth's seasonal changes
How to bring indoor activities outside - including mud play, gardening, yoga, the arts and peace education
How to make organic and healthy snacks for kids
And much more!
