The Buzz: There’s nothing much new in the University Library. Sure there is:

• SUMO is an unmediated article ordering service that allows faculty to request articles through CARL UnCover (one of the largest databases). Articles can be faxed directly to a faculty member’s home or department fax machine, and in some cases can be downloaded from the CARL website.

• The library spends 3/4 of a million dollars annually on new materials.

• Last year we acquired more than 10,000 books.

• If there is an item that any faculty member needs that we don’t own, it can easily be acquired through Interlibrary Loan.

• During last year’s periodical project more than 80 titles requested by faculty were added to the collection, bringing the print journal collection to 1,200 currently received titles.

• The entire journal collection, which includes print and electronic formats, exceeds 10,000 titles. This number increases regularly as new titles are added to the databases.

• We subscribe to more than 80 databases, many of which have full-text journals.

• During the spring semester, the University Library will launch netLibrary, a collection of more than 1,400 eBooks. Titles cover a range of disciplines including general reference, social sciences, education, psychology, environmental studies, nursing, medicine, business and computer science.

• Later this spring, we will add Link+, a system with combined holdings of 4 million titles that will revolutionize the book borrowing process from other libraries. It will become easier and faster for faculty to borrow books from other libraries The University Library regularly sends updates to the campus community.
