Have an event you would like the public to be aware to drive more participants to you? Below is a guide to help you self-submit information to local and regional calendars.

Publicity 101 and Calendars -
Getting the word out about an event

Online calendars have become an important manner to let the public know about SSU events. Unless the event is by invitation only, most events should be submitted for inclusion in online calendars.

  • Some outlets post events ONLY online
  • Others post online AND in the publication
  • But either way, events must be submited through an online website. See information below.

Early planning is key to success. Good publicity strategies are more successful if planning is done early in order to have enough time to develop creative ideas that make sure the event stands above the many groups vying for your audience’s attention.

First

  • Begin planning 6-8 weeks prior to the event. Planning groups sometimes do all the event work early, leaving publicity to be done at the end, but that practice almost always impacts attendance negatively. Make publicity plan a top priority.
