Alissa Arp, Ph.D., (B.A., 1977) is director of the Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies and professor of biology at San Francisco State University. Arp is an important figure in the efforts to advance understanding and perservation of the San Francisco Bay Estuary. She has raised more than $12 million to support this research activity. Arp received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2001 and was the Commencement speaker in 2004. |

Cynthia Dusel-Bacon, (B.A.) is a research geologist, U.S. Geological Survey, expert in the fields of metamorphic petrology, igneous geochemistry, and the regional geology and syngenetic hydrothermal mineral deposits of east-central Alaska. She was selected by U.S. government as one of 10 Outstanding Handicapped Federal Employees for 1981 and received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1999. |
| Richard DeFreez, (B.S., 1980) is Principal Scientist and Photonics Research & Development Manager at Hach Homeland Security Technologies. Dr. DeFreez is an author of nearly 100 peer-reviewed scientific and technical papers and book chapters. He is the principal architect of three bio-aerosol threat detection triggers: BARTS, Bioni, and BioLert. He received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1995. | |
