Mission Statement

Peter Neville, Excutive Directo

The Union is the community center for the university, for all the members of the university community--students, faculty, administration, alumni, and guests. It is not just a building; it is also an organization and a program.

As the "community/family room" of the university, the Student Union provides some of the services, conveniences, and amenities the members of the university community need in their daily life on the campus and for getting to know and understand one another through informal association outside the classroom.

The Union is part of the education program of the University.

* Its first and foremost role is to serve as a focal point for student life outside the classroom. The union strives to enhance the student's university experience by offering a program of social, cultural, recreational, and co-curricular activities designed to contribute to the student's educational and personal development.

* Through it's board, various committees, and staff, the Union provides experience which encourages self-directed activity, give maximum opportunity for self-realization and facilitate growth in individual social competency and group effectiveness. Its goal is the development of persons as well as intellects. As part of the campus community, the Union supports the mission statements of the Student Affairs Division and of the University.

In order to serve and nurture university life, the union continually assesses the needs of the university's growing and changing student body, and seeks to initiate programs and services to respond to those needs.

The union serves as a unifying force in the life of the university thereby developing campuswide collegiality and camaraderie which helps sustain and promote university community life.
