Dean Barbara Butler

Barbara Butler joined the Library faculty in 1994 and has served as Dean of the University Library for the past thirteen years. She earned her Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Hawaii, Honolulu in 1971 and her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science/Economics from McGill University in Montreal, Canada in 1966.From 1994-1999, Barbara was a librarian in the Ruben Salazar Library at Sonoma State. She has held previous library positions at the University of Nevada at Reno, Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii, Kaneohe Regional Library in Kaneohe, Hawaii, Hawaii Loa College in Kaneohe, Hawaii and served as technical assistant at the University of San Francisco.

With the move to the Schulz Information Center in 2000, she transformed the Library into an active learning center, highly collaborative in nature, which has built and supported academic success at Sonoma State.
