FR: Facilities Management

Campus community,

Parts of campus are experiencing a power outage. We know this second power outage of the week is disruptive, and we thank all members of the campus for their patience as we find more sustainable solutions to the problem. Beginning at 12 p.m., Facilities Management will be initiating a full-campus power down to repair utilities. This repair is estimated to take approximately two to three hours to complete. We anticipate power to be restored by the end of the day. In light of this reality, all administration and academic operations will shift to remote for the remainder of the day. Employees should consult with their appropriate administrator for direction.

Instruction: Instruction will move to remote for the remainder of the day for all classes, effective immediately. Instructors should notify their students directly regarding the status of the classes.

Campus Operations: Appropriate Administrators are asked to work directly with their employees to make unit-level determinations as to what tasks and job duties can be virtual for the remainder of the day.

Residents:  Residents are not required to leave campus during the campus power down. Residents are encouraged to:

  • charge cell phones and laptops between now and 12 p.m. while power is on
  • contact your instructors if you are unable to attend remote classes
  • refrain from opening and closing your refrigerator and freezer to ensure the safety of your food
  • consider powering down and unplugging major appliances in your apartment to prevent damage from possible power surges

Food Services:
The Student Center currently has power, and food service will continue with normal operations. When the campus shutdown occurs at noon, the Kitchens will remain open with limited services.

An update on the utility repairs will be provided by 4 p.m.
