January 29 meeting agenda:


1. Introduction

2. Meeting dates & time

Wednesdays, 5-7 pm

3. Focus for semester

- Basic theories of bioethics & professional codes
- Ethical issues and dilemmas in biotechnology
- Impacts of technology on individual, community, society, environment
- Legal & regulatory issues

4. Presentation ideas

- Powerpoint supported talk
- Instructional web site
- Panel presentation & discussion
- Debate teams & jury
- Mock review board [good for cases]

5. Food- Feel free to bring in drinks and snacks.

6. First activity- Write a definition of "bioethics" and then share with class.

7. Second activity- In small groups, discuss & identify the most important issues relating to biotechnology and bioethics. Share & record in class of the whole.


For next week:

1. Browse/Read in Genetic Engineering: Ch.1; browse professional codes in handout.

2. Explore on-line & in literature for issues of interest to you related to bioethics..

3. Review topics list, your notes, and your reading- prioritize topics to be covered this semester.
