Brief Biography

For 12 years, Dr. Ayala was employed as a bilingual school psychologist for the Palm Springs Unified School District serving children, teachers, and parents in a variety of capacities. His specializations include the assessment and programming of young children from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds as well as working with diverse families in a proactive manner. In addition, Dr. Ayala served as a consultant and trainer for several state and federal agencies assisting young children with disabilities from diverse backgrounds. Dr. Ayala is a frequent contributor and collaborator with agencies serving children with disabilities across the nation.

Since arriving at Sonoma State University, Dr. Ayala has focused his efforts on developing the Professional Level II Education Specialist Credential Program for the Department of Educational Leadership and Special Education. As well, Dr. Ayala currently serves as Project Director for EnACT, a federally funded grant to support post-secondary students with disabilities across the California State University system.
