During class we will have class discussion,small group interactions, group and individual activities/ projects, quizes, and tests.

Journal A learning journal is required.Writing for about fifteen minutes after reading is a good way to improve retention of ideas. You may use your journals for in class quizzes and for the MIDTERM. I will not collect the learning journals.

Papers You will complete two, 5-page papers for the course (approximately 1500 words each); the papers will be word processed, double spaced, 12-point, with one inch margins, and documented when appropriate using the MLA style. I will explain the parameters for the papers in class. I do not accept late papers.

In Class Tests and Quizes There will be a quiz or test on each work; your learning journals will be invaluable for the quizzes. The tests will require essay style responses. I will give you more information in class prior to tests. Use your journals to ...illuminate authors' themes as you prepare for quizzes and tests.

Midterm and Final Exams The midterm will cover the beginning half of the semester, and the FINAL will cover the entire semester. The midterm will be an essay test in which you will respond to a question or questions on issues and themes from the reading material. The FINAL will be a creative project tying together five or more works from the course. I will give you more details as the semester progresses. The final project, however, will tie the works together.

Creative Projects You will complete five creative projects that you will share with the group; presentations of your projects are LIMITED TO 3 MINUTES EACH. Be sure to practice your class presentation before class to ensure that you stay within the allotted time limit. Have fun with these!

Portfolio Please keep all of your work in a portfolio; your quizzes, tests, papers, research, helpful e-mail communications, class notes, and your journal entries. This will help you keep track of your progress during the semester. I can meet with you regularly to give you "progress reports" as to your grade and standing in the class.

Grading and Evaluation Your grade will be calculated as follows:

Papers = 30%;

Tests and Quizzes= 20%;
