Those who can, do.

Those who believe others can also, teach.

Teaching

·         Currently

During Spring 2009, I am teaching Math 360.

·         Previous semesters with web content

Fall 2008: Math 131.

Spring 2007: Math 107

Fall 2006:  Math 300A (Elementary Number Systems) and Math 131 (Finite Mathematics)

Spring 2005: Math 306 (Number Theory).

Fall 2004: Math 35 (Elementary Algebra); Math 220 (Introduction to Advanced Mathematics), and Math 470 (Mathematical Modeling)

Fall 2003:  Math 470 (Mathematical Modeling)

Spring 2003:  Math 220 (Introduction to Advanced Mathematics).

Spring 2001: Math 316/416 (Combinatorics and Graph Theory)

Fall 2000: Math 161 (Calculus I)

·         Cleveland

My teaching work immediately prior to coming to Sonoma State was with the Cleveland Collaborative for Mathematics Education and with elementary teachers in the Cleveland Public Schools.

·         Seattle

Prior to Cleveland, I was a member for three years of the Mathematics Department at the University of Washington in Seattle.

·         Study abroad in Mathematics?

Budapest Semesters in Mathematics is a wonderful opportunity for the motivated math major to spend some time studying mathematics intensively with great professors, while exploring the beautiful city of Budapest. Ask me if you have any questions.

·         History of Mathematics

Here is an impressive site on the History of Mathematics, including detailed biographies (with pictures) of over 200 mathematicians and shorter bios of over 800 more.
Here is a more extensive index of all history of math-related stuff on the Web: History of Mathematics Home Page.

·         Project NExT

I'm involved in Project NExT (New Experiences in Teaching), a Mathematical Association of America (MAA)-sponsored and Exxon Education Foundation-funded program for new or recent Ph.D.s in the mathematical sciences who are interested in improving the teaching and learning of undergraduate mathematics. I am a 1995-96 Project NExT fellow. For more information, including how to apply to be Project NExT Fellow, see the Project's home page. (I maintain the 95-96 Project NExT Participants page.)

Research

·         Publication list and a few preprints

Personal stuff

·         Links to my alma maters (what's the plural of "alma mater"? Update:  I’ve been informed that the latin plural is “almae matres”):
