You should answer these questions as you read the text.

Section 3.3

  1. Answer the question in the margin on page 198: Could you use the fact that you know the derivative of $ \sqrt{x}$ (what is it?) to find the derivative of $ \sqrt{x+1}$?
  2. What is a transcendental function?
  3. Review: What is natural about the natural exponential function?
  4. What can you ``pull out of'' a limit? See the middle of p. 201.
  5. How does the book conclude that the k in the center of p. 201 exists?
  6. How are the slopes of f and f-1 related?
  7. What is the derivative of ln x?
  8. To check the Fact in the box on page 204, you'd have to take the derivative of F(x) = xln x - x + C. Which part(s) of this function can't we differentiate yet?
  9. What is an antiderivative of 4ex? How many antiderivatives are there?
