Extended field trip, 15 days in Ecuador, in January 2010. Focus of trip is great range of natural and cultural landscapes, from the high Andes ice-capped volcanoes and indigenous village markets, to the Mindo cloud forest; from the cosmopolitan Colonial city of Quito to the stark contrasts of oil extraction and deforestation in the upper Amazon rainforest. We visit with local people in the rural Andes and Amazon rainforest. Geographic study includes a great range of climates, vegetation biomes, volcanic and high relief landforms, as well as study of cultural issues, politics, and economy of modern Ecuador. (2 units of Geography credit)
