CRITERIA FOR GRADING GROUP PRESENTATIONS

You will receive a total of 15 points for each Group Presentation, for a total of 30% of your grade. Grades for each presentation will be based on the following criteria.

GROUP AND INDIVIDUAL PRESENTATION RATING (15 points for each presentation)

1. Completeness of information presented
For October 13 & 18 presentations: description of geology, topography, elevation, geomorphic processes, climate and weather, vegetation. You may also include: animals, mineral resources, water resources, other natural features.

For December 6 & 8 Presentations: Each presenter should choose one human or human/physical aspect of his or her region to describe in some depth. This could include aspects of the social, cultural, and/or ethnic composition, landscape, issues of the locality, or could focus on economic activities or political issues. For example, a person presenting on the Modoc Plateau could present on the issues around limited employment opportunities, low population density, effects of relative isolation on communities and services, agriculture and the railroads, etc.

2. Quality of information presented
Does your presentation give your audience a stimulating, compelling view of your chosen region? Does this material augment the material from lecture and text?

3. Clarity of power point presentation
Is your presentation understandable, not so cluttered as to be confusing?

4. Clarity of spoken presentation
Does your spoken presentation complement and elaborate on your power point presentation?

5. Pace of your presentation (maximum of 20 minutes per group, 5 minutes per person)
Is your presentation slow enough for students to take notes, but fast enough to cover all of the material in your assigned time?

6. Illustrations, diagrams, maps, images for your presentation
Are illustrations used effectively to clarify information presented?

INDIVIDUAL GRADE (will be considered in conjunction with above 15 points for each presentation)

Each student will have a chance to grade themselves on their individual contribution to the group presentation. In addition, each student will also rate their team mates’ efforts.

1. Did you and your team mates share the efforts relatively equally? (Did each person carry his/her own weight to help the group? Rate on scale of 1 [lowest] to 10 [highest].)

2. Did you have an opportunity to learn the information and techniques/skills that you wanted to get from this exercise?

3. Did you have a chance to share your particular skills to aid the group?

4. How would you rate your own efforts and participation toward the success of the presentation? (on a scale of 1 to 10)
