Geography 370

Weather and Climate

Spring 2009

RESEARCH PROJECT

Here is your opportunity to study one of the features of climate and weather in a bit more depth. The term project should consist of about 5 to 8 pages of text plus diagrams, maps, other illustrations, plus bibliography. The topic can be any climatological feature, such as South Asian Monsoons, El Niño, North Atlantic Oscillation, or any other phenomenon that has an influence on global or regional climate. You may choose to look at an aspect of climate change, past, present or future. You may also choose to collect weather data from a field site, say, your backyard, and do some analysis on it. In this case you should describe the specific microclimate characteristics of your location. You may borrow from the Geog Department instruments such as a sling psychrometer, barometer, thermometers, and anemometer. This project can be a continuation of the topic you chose for your annotated bibliography.

Please run your idea by me before you get too far into it. For your write-up, use the parameters described for all Geography and Global Studies papers on the Department website, under Resources, then Paper Guidelines.

Check also the Department citation style, Chicago/Turabian, at the SSU Library Research Guides web page.

Paper is due Monday, May 11, the last week of class.
