During the seventies and eighties, the US Army conducted research on Botulism strains for the purpose of biological warefare. From that research has emerged an incredibly popular anti-wrinkle treatment.
Rivalling the popularity of Viagra is a botulism bacterial protien called "Botox". It's manufactured by Allergan Inc. Botox injections temporoarily paralyze the facial tissue where delivered. In doing so, wrinkles are minimized and facial tissue appears smooth.
Injections cost at least $450.00 and last about three months. Each vial contains a minicsule amount of the toxin. Last year alone, 1.6 million Americans received such treatments. Plastic surgens, known for their strict adherence to medical necesity, are the sole proprietors of these pin-prick miracles. Patients must be careful not to lean over immediately following treatments, however, or the Botox poison might seep into unintended targets in the face and/or eyes.
Botox is especially loved amoung Hollywoods elite, as it also blocks facial perspiration. Some actresses, said a popular director, are unable to frown or express any range of emotion. Apparently, audiences are more interested in placid beauty than in watching their favorite stars age or act.
