Professor of Arts and Humanities at Sonoma State University, Elizabeth Carothers Herron is a published poet and fiction writer. She turned her attention to environmental issues in 1991, after a tragic toxic spill in the Sacramento River. Herron's published work includes three collections of poems - Desire Being Full of Distances, Language for the Wild, The Stones the Dark Earth, Report (a chapbook), and a book of short stories, While the Distance Widens. Her essays about the human relationship to the natural world have appeared in Orion, ReVision, Northern Lights and Wild Duck Review. In 2003 she completed a book-length poem in collaboration with sculpture, Bruce Johnson for his Poetry House. Her current poetry manuscripts are In the Cities of Sleep and The Animal Body (working title).
