Students: My approach to teaching is to give each of you the opportunity to learn using the methods by which you learn best. We are

not all the same- thank goodness! Some of you learn best by listening, some by visualization, some by working through processes in

real time, some by reading, and some by a combination of the above with the addition of repetition and/or discussion with others.

To accommodate these learning differences, I try to do the following: 1) Provide reading assignments from a good text book that explains

the geosciences with clear, concise wording and outstanding support graphics to help you visualize the concepts; 2) Lecture on these reading topics

using a combination of figures from the book, figures that I draw on the white board, and figures that I steal from elsewhere when I think

that they will provide you with additonal insight; 3) Discuss examples from the present or recent past, to show you the relevance of the subject matter;

4) Post all of my personal lecture notes and viewgraphs on this website so that you can revisit those which were unclear to you (note that

my personal lecture notes may be rough! If they don't make sense, feel free to ask me about them).

If you still find it difficult to learn the material, please visit me so that we can talk about your approaches to learning.
