My Job(s) at SSU

Currently, I'm in charge of supporting web use and development on campus. I don't have a job title yet - that probably won't happen until I get around to rewriting my job description. That's something I'm pretty familiar with - I've changed descriptions and classifications at least a few times since starting to work at SSU...

1987 - Student Assistant, Salazar Library, Microform Room. My boss, Betty Emblen, retired unexpectedly a few months after I started. It took a while before Betty's duties could be reassigned to other library staff. In the meantime, another student assistant and I sort of ran the microform room on our own. We must have done a reasonably good job - we were left to do pretty much as we wanted, and our new supervisors seemed pleased with the changes we made.

  1991 -

The library finally opened Betty's position for recruitment. I applied and was offered the job. By this time, I had been providing support for peridical use, the word processing lab, the multimedia lab, and the multimedia center.

1992 - With the encouragement of my supervisor, Margaret Jourdain, I rewrote my job description and was reclassed to Library Assistant II.

1994 - Most of my duties involved the management of the Multimedia Center's computing resources, so I rewrote my job description and was reclassed into the Instructional Computing Consultant series.

  1995 -

Information Technology opened a helpdesk coordinator position. I was offered (and took) the job.

  1996/7 -

The CSU created a new classification series for IT employees. I rewrote my job description and was classified as and Information Technology Consultant - Career level.

  1999 -

I became Assistant Director of IT. (hmmm...who wrote my job description?) Reclassified as manager (MPP)

2000 - One of my resposibilities as Asst. Dir. was to draft job descriptions for various IT positions for the IT Director. In June, I went on maternity leave. Needing more flexibility in my schedule, I decided to change jobs again when I returned.

2001 - Returned from Maternity leave and took up Web Support position. I'll eventually have to rewrite my job description....

2002 - My boss has written my job description! hooray!
