I work for Information
Technology as the New Media Development Manager. I
oversee the Web
Office, which
provides support to campus web developers
(students, staff and faculty), and coordinate
efforts in IT's New Media Lab. I've been at SSU
since 1983, when I was a freshman in Hutchins.
After changing my majors many times, I eventually
graduated from the English department and moved on
to Education and the Single Subject Credential
program. After two semesters of hellish student
teaching in a Catholic middle school, I realized I
was not physically and emotionally prepared to
spend my days working with teenagers! In the meantime, I worked as
a student assistant in the University Library,
helping the campus community find and use
microform, multimedia, and library computer labs.
This eventually developed into a full time job -
one where I didn't have to worry about things like
classroom management, time on task, explaining to
the nuns why the kids keep talking about
sperm. In 1995 I moved to
Information Technology, and became the Service
Center Coordinator. Let's just say that was
challenging. In 1999 I became Assistant Director of
Information Technology. The majority of my work as
Asst. Director was related to Schulz construction
and the impending move from Salazar. I went on
maternity leave just in time to avoid the actual
move (some people think my timing was planned...).
Wanting to avoid frequent flights to the
Chancellor's Office to talk about Peoplesoft, I
asked to be assigned to the Web Office and
Instructional Technology when I returned - and I'm
really enjoying working with faculty, students and
staff again. At home, I have two little
kids - Ely is 4 1/2, and Delaney is 1 1/2. They're
lots of fun, mostly. I hardly ever want to tear my
hair out. Really. My husband, CJ Holmes, is the
Director of Development for WebSTAR,
and a former SSU Computer Science student. He was
also SSU's first Webmaster (Did you know the
university's
first web server was
a Mac IIcx sitting on a student assistant's desk?)
When I met him, he needed only 3 semesters to
graduate. He still needs only 3 semesters. Oh well.
He's earning the big bucks, and he's a handy
web/internet/engineering expert. You can see pics
of my family and get more info about me at
my
super low-tech home page. That's enough about
me... Home Contents Syllabus Intro 1 2 3 4 5 6 Group Summary Assignments WebCT Instructors |
